This recipe combines three of my favorite things—buffalo sauce, jackfruit, and pizza—into a single, mouth-watering, crowd-pleasing dinner! I actually brought this to a Friendsgiving party last year (I know, not very traditional) and it was such a hit, more so than the vegan turkey or mashed potatoes.
I used store-bought pizza crust because I always seem to have a few on hand. But you’re welcome to swap this out for your own homemade pizza crust if you wish! Either way, you end up with a spicy, cheesy, chick’n-y pizza.
Vegan Buffalo Jackfruit Pizza
Ingredients:
- 1 large pizza crust of choice, prepared according to package instructions,
- 1 15 oz can young green jackfruit in brine
- 1 tsp vegan chicken seasoning, such as this one from Trader Joe’s
- 1/2 tsp cayenne
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/8 tsp liquid smoke
- 1/4 cup + 3 tbsp buffalo sauce, divided
- 1/3 cup vegan cream cheese
- 3/4 cup shredded vegan mozzarella
- 1/2 small white onion, sliced
- 3 tbsp vegan mayo
- 1 tbsp plant milk
- 1/2 tsp dill
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Drain and rinse your jackfruit, then pat dry. Cut out the cores, remove the pits, and use a fork to gently shred the jackfruit.
- Add some oil to a pan on medium heat. Add the shredded jackfruit, chicken seasoning, cayenne, paprika, and liquid smoke and sauté for 3 - 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low and add 3 tbsp of buffalo sauce. Sauté for an additional 3 - 5 minutes, or until jackfruit is tender. Set aside
- In a bowl, combine vegan cream cheese and the remaining buffalo sauce to form the pizza sauce.
- Cover the pizza dough with the sauce, then add the vegan mozzarella, onion, and finally the buffalo jackfruit.
- Bake the pizza dough according to package instructions.
- While the pizza is in the oven, prepare the vegan ranch! Add the vegan mayo, plant milk, dill, garlic pepper, salt, and pepper to a bowl and whisk to combine.
- Allow the pizza to cool slightly before drizzling on the vegan ranch.
