I’ve been putting anything and everything edible in my air fryer lately so naturally, I had to test out some Buffalo Cauliflower Wings. My obsession with buffalo sauce is no secret and in the almost three years I’ve had this blog, I’ve made everything from Buffalo Tempeh Mac ‘n Cheese to Buffalo Jackfruit Pizza to Buffalo Tofu Tenders.
But we can’t really have a conversation about why buffalo is the superior sauce/flavor without bringing up buffalo wings! There are so many ways to make vegan wings (like these Kentucky Fried Jackfruit Wings) but cauliflower is the OG. When battered and fried, cauliflower is crispy, tender, and weirdly enough — chicken-y.
So let’s harness that caulipower and make some air fried wings! To make these, you’ll need:
a head of cauliflower,
all purpose flour (gluten-free flour works, too!),
plant milk,
panko breadcrumbs (gluten-free works!),
seasonings — salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika,
and most importantly, buffalo sauce!
Air Fryer Buffalo Cauliflower Wings (Vegan, Gluten-Free Options)
Ingredients:
- 1 head of cauliflower
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (gluten-free optional)
- 1 cup all purpose flour (gluten-free optional)
- 3/4 cup unsweetened plant milk
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- salt and pepper, to taste
- non-stick cooking spray
- 1 cup buffalo sauce or hot sauce
Instructions:
- *If you are using an oven, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease or line a baking sheet with parchment paper. If you are using an air fryer, you can skip this step.
- Cut the head of cauliflower into bite-size florets.
- Add panko breadcrumbs to a large plate or shallow dish.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, milk, garlic and onion powder, paprika, and salt and pepper.
- Coat each cauliflower floret in the batter and then cover with breadcrumbs.
- Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Coat the basket with a few sprays of non-stick cooking spray and add battered cauliflower florets to the basket.
- Cook the cauliflower wings for 9 minutes (35, if using oven instead of air fryer), flipping about halfway through.
- Toss the wings in buffalo sauce and stick them back in the air-fryer for 3 minutes. (If you are using an oven, 5 - 10 minutes)
- Serve immediately with your favorite vegan ranch or blue cheeze dip.
